HI folks,
I'm hoping someone will recognize something about the following family:
Arvilla Lafferty married David Dow 3 Jun 1860 in Montcalm county Michigan, probably somewhere around Sidney. They show in the 1860 census as living with her parents Edmund and Elizabeth Lafferty. Arvilla was 15, David age 25 and born in Canada.
Edmunds will written the 10th of March 1891 ( he died 14 Apr 1901 in Rushford, Allegany county, New York) makes the following statement regarding Arvilla's children: " And Betsy Moy, Edmund Dow, Richard Dow and Almira Dow, severally grandchildren of the deceased ( they severally being the surviving children of Arvilla Dow, a deceased daughter of said deceased) That I have made diligent inquiries of Elizabeth Lafferty, the widow of Said deceased
and Warren Clark the uncle of said Betsy Moy, Edmund Dow, Richard Dow and Almira Dow as to their present residence, and I am informed by them that they have been unable to ascertain the present residence of the said Betsy Moy, Edmund Dow, Richard Dow and Almira Dow, or any or either of them. That about the year 1894, the said betsy Dow was in China, Edmund Dow was in Cleveland, OH temporarily, Richard Dow was in Toledo, Ohio and Almira Dow was in Boston, Mass, but since that time the said Warren Clark informs your petitoner that he has been unable to communicate with or locate them>"
David Dow does not show in any of the census I can find afte 1860 with a wife Almira. She obviously died fairly young.
The 1870 census shows Edmund and wife and 5 year old son William living in Cleveland, OH and by 1880 they are back in New York.
