Dow, James born 1860 in Canada

I am looking for information on my Dow ancestors. In the 1900 US census for Trumbull County, Ohio my Great-great grandfather, James Dow, is listed as being born in "Canada Eng" in 1860. According to the census information, his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Scotland. He and his wife, Sybella, immigrated to the US in 1895. He is listed on the census as a Railroad Laborer. His children are as follows:

John born in 1882 in "Canada En"
Agnes born in 1884 in "Canada En"
Zella born in 1886 in "Canada En"
Mary born in 1887 in "Canada En"
William (my great grandfather) born in 1889 in "Canada En"

Does anyone know if the listing of "Canada Eng" provides a clue as to where in Canada they came from?

Thank you!
