Our last name is Denis (Diniz). I'm from Hawaii, My father is Gerald, his father was William, his father was Frank or Francisco, and his father was Agostinho Diniz. He was the one that took that trip west. I have papers of Agostinho Diniz (age 30) leaving Sao Miguel on the Suffolk in 1881 arriving in Hawaii (102 days later) getting off the ship with Denis as his new last name. That would be the Start of Denis' in America. I have another shipping document of Agostinho Diniz (age of 21) and wife Maria De Jesus (age of 38). Ship papers show the children that came with them Maria 8, Ana 4 and Francisco 9 months. It also notes that the different in ages suggests that wife Maria married twice: Maria and Ana from first marriage. The ages were always a question in our minds.
I'm looking for information from Agostinho Diniz before the arrival to Hawaii in 1881. Thanks Aloha
