Jack is my newly Y-DNA identified Dean cousin, and as of yesterday, we are officially cousins of the Jeremiah Dean lines of Edmond, Drury, and Sherod Deans of Nash, NC. Jack is a perfect match, meaning that he shares a more recent common ancestor (likely in late 1700's SC, GA, or AL); whereas my Richard Dean probably shares an earlier ancestor, likely in Edgecombe or Nash, NC, in the early 1700s. There are now four of us of the Dean surname with Y-DNA identified common ties whose ancestors migrated from NC into SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, and TX. While we know we are cousins, we do not yet have the full picture. Not having the full picture, however, is incredibly much further along in our search than we were prior to the testing. At this point, we have Deans with documented roots in Nash, NC; SC; Washington, Montgomery, Laurens, Twiggs, Marion, Houston, Pulaski, Muscogee, and Chattahoochee, GA; Lowndes, Autaugua, Conecuh, Montgomery, Dale, Pike, and Butler, AL; Santa Rosa and other counties in Florida; Union Parish, LA; AR, TX, NM, OK . . . In short, we're so excited over our many new Dean/Deen/Deens cousins that WE WANT MORE! We hope that the base we've established will encourage more of our Southern kin to be tested. We know of connections to the South Georgia Deans and think many of the Deans in the area of Edgecombe/Nash/Jones/Lenoir/Franklin/Dobbs/Halifax/Pitt, NC, are likely related. Sharon Dean Lee, descendant of Richard Dean of Halifax, NC, and of Washington, Laurens, Houston, and Muscogee, GA, with sons who settled in Dale Co, AL and points west.
