Hi all,

There are two prominent Cline families in southwestern Virginia: Nicholas Cline of Wythe County and Peter Cline (1756- abt 1840) of the Tug River region of VA/WV-KY (Logan County). Nicholas (abt 1745-aft 1820) had a son Peter, but this Peter is not the same Peter as the Tug River Peter.

Nicholas did not have a son William but Peter Cline did. He is commonly referred to as William "Alum Billy" Cline and settled in Logan County, VA/WV.

There are also two Michael Clines: one by Peter of Tug and one by Nicholas.

I have researched my direct ancestor, William Cline (alias William Johnson) (1820-1886). He lived in Tazewell Co. VA from at least 1848 until his death. My website, www.clinejohnson.com discusses the various Cline families of the region. The website is a work in progress but I have some info on there that may be of interest.
