GROVER CLEVELAND CLINE/CLAIRBORNE, TN
Posted by: M. Graham (ID *****9193) Date: February 27, 2007 at 01:10:07

Continue to look for more information, photos and close kin of Grover Cleveland Cline, born in Lonesome Valley, near Tazewell, Claiborne County, TN, on October 24, 1884. The son of David T. and Wineford/Winefred Cline, Cleve owned a store in Middlesboro, Bell County, KY, where he died of tuberculosis on November 18, 1921.

His first wife is listed variously as Lillie Jarmon, Jardon or Jordan, but now identified as Lillie Frances Jared, born September 30, 1887. (The source is her death certificate, filled out and signed by Cleve in Middlesboro on September 30, 1887.) She's believed to have been the child or Francis P. and Alice Dotson Jared of Putnam County, TN. Lillie and Cleve had one son, Kemp Cline, listed as two months old in the 1910 census for Bell County.

Cleve's second wife was Lillie Belvia Brown, a resident of Claiborne County, TN, but born on January 21, 1892, in Ashe County, NC. The daughter of Tilman Grant Brown and Nettie Robinson Brown, she had a daughter by Cleve, given the name Annalee Cline. She later had three other children (only one of whom reached adulthood) by second husband, Carl Isaac Newman of Middlesboro, KY, whom she married after Cleve's death. Lillie herself died on November 07, 1964, in Decatur, GA.

Kemp died on the West Coast, probably in the mid-1940s and of tuberculosis. Annalee is still living at 90 years of age.
