Hello,

I was wondering if someone might help me find information on John J. GRAVES who married Mary (Polly) CLINE on 29 Oct 1843 in Williamson Co., IL. On the 1850 census, I have not been able to find them listed in IL or on the 1860 census there either. I don't know who Mary's parents were at all, but believe she was born in TN.

John and Mary had four children, possibly five: Gilbert and James J., William, and Mary GRAVES. Gilbert was my grandfather and I believe his first name might have been John as well but have no proof of that at all as he always went my Gilbert.

Anyway, in thinking about Allen Co., KY and an old family story that had my grandparents Gilbert and Nancy (TANNER) GRAVES visiting in KY years later when their children were little, I looked again on Ancestry to see if I could find any possible matches for 1850 for John and Mary. In the 1850 census for Not Stated, Allen Co., KY, household 264, there is the following family:

John Graves, 29 M, farmer, born KY
M. Graves, 25, F, born TN
A. Graves, 5, M, born IL
G. Graves, 2 M, born KY

Right above this GRAVES family is the John CLINE family. I am wondering if this John CLINE might have been a brother to Mary. I have no idea who her parents were at all or who any of her siblings were. I do know that my GRAVES line had a habit of moving from place to place with other family members and that's how they ended up going from IL to MO to AR, supposedly in a wagon train with other family members. The G. GRAVES listed above could stand for Gilbert or it could stand for a hundred other names. But since the family was from KY originally, and John's parents from KY, I am just wondering if he went back to KY for a few years. I know he was back in Williamson Co., IL in 1876. But between 1843 and 1876 I have no clue! Mary "Polly" CLINE GRAVES died between 1864 and 1870.

I am hoping someone might have information on this GRAVES family or on the John CLINE family or might be able to connect up with them. I would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks,
Bonnie Graves
