Does anyone know the connection to the New London, Connecticut Calkins line (if any) of the writer and poet John Gardiner Calkins Brainard? He was born in New London in 1796, son of Jeremiah Brainard and Sarah Gardiner. He was editor of the Connecticut "Mirror" for some years and a personal friend of the poet John Greenleaf Whittier. I was curious if he is a distant Calkins relative because of his middle name.
