Well, I put out some money to use some of the services on line and it appears the problem is that none of these (great) uncles had any children, let alone male children to continue the name.
Going back to Philander N -
He had three kids - Jane Ann, Emerson Rood, and Hiram Clark. Emerson Rood and Jane Ann had kids of their own; Hiram had an adopted son.
Emerson Rood had 10 kids - 4 died in 1883 from small pox. Clarence and Charles had no children; Ernest had 1, a daughter named Ernetta. My grandfather A. Romaine had 6.
I'm sending you directly a gedcom with what I have for the descendants of Philander Nelson Calkins as I will anyone else who wants a copy.
