I research Blacks in Butler County. Here are my notes on Robert W. Black who married Mary Ann Hastings:
1. ROBERT WHITFIELD "BOB"5 BLACK (THOMAS JEFFERSON4, ROBERT W.(WHITFIELD or Wilkinson?)3, JAMES2, SAMUEL1)1 was born June 06, 1825, in Butler County, Alabama, and died April 09, 1864. He married MARY ANN HASTINGS December 14, 1854 in Butler Co., Ala.. She was born Bet. 1825 - 1830.

Robert Whitfield Black died in the Civil War. One record, a "Descriptive List and Account of Bounty" (of several privates) described him as a private in Co. K of the 17th Ala. Vols., age 41, blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, 5' 10" tall; a farmer from Butler Co., Ala. He was enlisted in Greenville, Ala. by Capt. Bolling in 1863 (part of date is missing from copy) for war and had received $50 bounty according to this record. Stationed at Camp Cantey, Mobile, Alabama, Nov. 13, 1863.
