Henry Bertrand, son of Jean Baptiste Bertrand who came to Ohio with the French Five Hundred in 1790, was married on Jan 12, 1848 in Scioto County, Ohio to Mary Sharp. They had four children: Daughters Julia, Isabella and Ohio. Son Young Bertrand, youngest, was born 1859
Nancy Sharp, sister of Mary, was married to William H. Brainard on August 8, 1857 in Lawrence County, Ohio. They had five daughters: Alice, Emma, Mary, Carrie and Ruby.
Both families were living in Massac County,Illinois when the 1880 census was taken but Henry's surname was misspelled as Burtrem. Henry and Mary Sharp Bertrand were also enumerated there in the 1860 and 1870 censuses.
