It appears likely that Rolland F. Bertrand, born 1923, was the son of George and Angeline Bertrand, censused in 1930 in Cook County, Illinois: George, age 41, born Illinois-parents born French-Canada; Angeline, age 35, born Fr-Canada; Lillian, 16; Stella, 13; Elmer, 12; Paul, 10; and Rollin (sic) 6. In turn, George was likely the son of Louis Bertrand of Kankakee County, who was born in Canada. In 1900 Census of Kankakee Co., Pilot Township: Louis Bertrand, born Oct 1851 in Canada; Adline, Oct 1855, Canada, mother of 11 of which 9 survived; Medos, Sept 1879; Frederick H., Apr 1885; George G., Apr 1889; Lara H, Feb 1893; Bobbi J, Mar 1895; Louis J, Aug 1898; Celima, "mother", May 1828; Matilda, "sister", Apr 1860. The paternal lineage for Louis has been worked out all the way back to Jean Bertrand who arrived in Canada in 1683 from Bourg de Matha, France. The lineage is posted on Rootsweb and Ancestry, but if you need help accessing it, please contact me.
