William Bennett also had two sisters who came with him to Yancey County. One sister never married but lived to be very old was the first person buried in the Nass Bailey Cemetery in Yancey County, North Carolina. The other sister Martha Bennett married William Randolph (b. ca 1797 d. ca 1862).

In an interview William Bennett's granddaughter Cora Bennett Peake gave in 1982, she claims that her grandfather moved to North Carolina from Virginia possibly the Richmond area. However, his 1880 census claims that William was born in North Carolina. Is it possible William was born in Richmond County, North Carolina and the story became confused over the years. Cora was 101 years old when she gave that interview.
