BENNETT - NOBLE- PENNINGTON connection

My wife Reba I and my neice Kathy Grace and cousin Earl Clem, have been researching the BENNETT, NOBLE and PENNINGTON families since we discovered our NOBLE family connection about two years ago. My neice Kathy came upon the Rod Pennington site and forwarded it on to me to help her research it. The Mary Pennington NOBLE spoken of that is the daughter of Jacob PENNINGTON and granddaughter of Abraham PENNINGTON- I believe is my 4th Great-grandmother.

I am a GGG-Grandson of Rev. John Noble, born abt. 1788 and Sarah Holloway, (daughter of William HOLLOWAY) all from Spartanburg, South Carolina, through their daughter Martha Patsy Noble, born about 1826, she married Elijah B. Skillman probably about 1840-42. Elijah and Martha (Noble) Skillman went on to settle in Tishomingo Mississippi. Martha and Elijah had five children: (1) Sarah Ann Losinda Skillman born 1842, (2) Isaac Thomas Skillman born 1845,-my Great-Grandfather (3) Mary Ann Skillman born 1847, (4) Lydia Ann Emeline Skillman born 1850, (5) Elijah Skillman, Jr. born 1852. Her husband Elijah Skillman died in 1852 in Tishomingo, and Martha came back to DeKalb County Alabama to stay with her father John Noble, and she remarried to a Hiram Nations in 1856, they had no children together. Hiram Nations her second husband died about 1861, and she appeared to remain a widow the rest of her days. Martha Patsy (Noble) Skillman-Nations, died on April 22, 1909 in Alabama City in Etowah County Alabama.

All of Martha and Elijah Skillman's children remained in Etowah and surrounding Counties of Alabama, except Sarah Ann Losinda (Skillman) Herring who went to Arkansas, Earl Clem who I spoke of above is from this line.

We know very little on the Bennett and Noble family, and have been unable to find the parents of John Noble. John Noble and his brother Charles Pennington Noble, where orpaned as children for some reason and adopted by two Brown men Aries and Lewis who where brothers. John Noble named a son Bennett NOBLE. By the name of John Noble's brother being PENNINGTON NOBLE I am led to believe his mother was a PENNINGTON. Also my NOBLE and HOLLOWAY family came from the same South Carolina area of Newberry and Spartenburg as the PENNINGTON's. William HOLLOWAY the father-inlaw of John NOBLE had another daughter who married a Vincent BENNETT. So it appears the Pennington's, Noble's, Holloway's and Bennett's seemed to travel and stay together.

I have noticed the mention of Mary TUTTLE (Cherokee) as the possible wife of Jacob PENNINGTON. This would align with our old family stories and help explain them of Martha (Noble) Skillman being Cherokee Indain. Because Mary TUTTLE would be her Great-Grandmother.

Our cousins Earl and Carol Clem in Arkansas who also came from Martha Patsy Noble and Elijah Skillman, said their grandmother, Sarah Losinda Skillman a daughter of Martha was very dark skinned, had dark hair and dark eyes. Also in my family from Isaac Thomas Skillman, their son, the Native influence had been very dominant. The families have always said we were Native American.

Does anyone have any new information to verify the Mary TUTTLE theory? Or know of any Native American history in the Noble, Holloway and Bennett or other related families?

Any infomation you can provide to help me with this connection will be gratly appreciated. I will be glad to share any research material I have to help verify this connection, and others in their research.

Thanks again for all your help,
