Belliveau Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Kathleen,
Yes, we're cousins. Your mom married Fred Hanna, and your family is from West Warwick/Coventry area. Your grandparents Peter and Leontine lived at the top of Fairview Avenue, if I remember correctly, just above the parish cemetery of St-Jean-Baptiste in Arctic. Peter was the next child after my grandmother Soufrina. There were eight in all, a stillborn, David, Soufrina, Peter, Doralice, Louise, Irene and Leontine (who was blind and played classical guitar, I was told, but undoubtedly she could have mastered the mandolin as well). My brother was a member of the Providence mandolin orchestra for a while, so musical talent runs in the family, and as the obituary of Ulric says, all this was inspired by his mother, Marcelline Melancon, who loved to play the violin as well.
Back to your family, I once met your aunt Evelyn, and that's how I learned that your branch of the family was living in Kent County. Your grandparents also had 8 children. You can find more info on your lineage by joining the American-French Genealogy Society in Woonsocket. I was once President of the society, and they have a copy of the genealogy of my grandparents that I compiled. One note worth boasting of (a bit), we have one line (not in the book, since I found it later) which traced back to French Royalty, descending from Robert of Bourbon, son of Saint King Louis IX. From there it can be traced back to Charlemagne and his grandfater Clovis (c 400s). It can only be ascertained through the Acadian gateway ancestor of Charles St-Etienne de Latour, who is one of our more remote ancestors on that side of the family and only through a Lanoue connection, which married into our Beliveau branch. The rest of the Beliveaus, Belliveaus cannot claim that. Our branch is also distantly-related to Salomon Juneau, the founder and first mayor of Milwaukee, WI, as we descend directly from his sister, Félicité.
Have a great weekend, and hope this has peeked your interest in our family's roots. Dennis
