Looking for info about the Irish and American phases of my Canadian Bells. Robert Bell (b. Strabane, March 4, 1797) married Catharine Wallace (in Strabane ?) between 1815 and 1819. He, or his family, is said to have been in the manufacturing end of the linen business. Robert and Catharine had 3 children in Strabane (William, Robert and John) before moving to New York in 1823 or '24 (where they had two children, incl my gggrandfather, James) and then to Ontario (Kemptville) in 1832 or '33 (where they had three of four children). Robert (father) took up farming in Kemptville and died there. Robert (son) became a surveyor, railway promoter, newspaper publisher and MLA, and lived in Ottawa/Hull. John was the Solicitor for the Grand Trunk Railway (Canada West)for 36 years and lived in Belleville, Ont. James was an insurance agent and mining promoter in Arnprior, Ont. Daughter Elizabeth married Dr Charles Frederick Ferguson (their son became Premier of Ontario). Would appreciate any info on either the Irish or USA periods in this family's life. Would particularly like to know marriage info for Robert and Catharine and the names of their parents. Thank you, Peter K. Notify Administrator about this message?
