In my search for facts about the life of Marguerite Bell of McDonough County, Illinois, I obtained obituaries for both of her parents, George D. and Julia L. (Heister) Bell. Since people have generously shared information with me, I hope this information will be of some use to someone else.
George D. Bell was born in March of 1872 in Canton, Fulton Co., Illinois. Julia L. Heister was born 13 Aug 1875 [or 1876] in Rio, Knox Co., Illinois. George and Julia were married on 29 Apr 1896 in McDonough Co., Illinois.
George Bell died 6 Jan 1926 in Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois and was buried in Bushnell Cemetery in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois. Julia died 17 Dec 1940 in Galesburg and was buried on 21 Dec 1940 in Bushnell Cemetery. At the time of her death, Julia was survived by three brothers - James, Charles and Glen Heister - in addition to her nine children and three grandchildren.
Marguerite L. Bell, the eldest child of George and Julia Bell, was born in April of 1897 in McDonough Co. (probably Bushnell), Illinois. By 1918 she was married to John Smith Pence (born 16 Sep 1878 in Kentucky, probably Grayson Co.) and they were living in Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois. They had at least one child, John Pence.
John Bell was born in May of 1899 in McDonough Co. (probably Bushnell), Illinois. He later moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin and then to Chicago, Illinois.
Harriet A. Bell was born around 1902 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois and married Leonard Page. They lived in East Galesburg, Illinois.
Helen J. Bell was born around 1903 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois. She married Sam Molin [or Melin] and later a Mr. Hillrichs.
Georgia Bell was born on 23 Apr 1905 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois. On 02 Jun 1928 she married William M. Siberer [or Silberer] in Bushnell. On 29 Jun 1949 she married Phillip E. Wells, Jr. in Rock Island, Illinois. She died 9 May 1974.
Robert E. Bell and James E. Bell were born on 29 Apr 1909 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois. Robert married Lena Vitali on 31 May 1936 in Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois. He died 25 Feb 1983 in Galesburg. James was married first to Margaaret Stuemke and then to Josephine Kyano. He died 18 Dec 1978 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Russell Bell was born on 16 Feb 1913 in Bushnell, McDonough Co., Illinois. He was married to Vera Wingo. He died 30 Nov 1993 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California.
Lois Bell was born around 1914 and married a man named Swanson.
