Looking for info on children of James & Elizabeth "LANE" Bell who resided in Cooper co. MO in 1850. Archibald BELL, our line, was born about 1837 in Missouri, one of 13 children born to James and Elizabeth LANE Bell. On the 1850 census, this family resided in Cooper County, Missouri. From tax records, we know that Arch’s grandfather, Zephaniah, was in Cooper County as early as 1820 and still lived there in 1850. ( age 81). 1850 Cooper co. Missouri, Booneville twp. James BELL age 47 listed as born in VA (1860 census says SC) Elizabeth age 41 born North Carolina William age 24 Jane age 22 Mary Ann age 18 Davinda G. age 16 Andrew Jackson age 15 Archibald C. age 13 Robert S. age 12 Zephaniah age 10 Irban H. age 8 Malinda E. age 7 Samuel S age 6 James C. age 5 Hector M. age 2, all the children born in Missouri The ages for these children seem to be inaccurate when compared to later census records. Before 1860 James and some of his children had moved to Arkansas. Elizabeth evidently died about 1859. On the 1860 census for Scott County, Arkansas, James is married to “Margaret” age 36. The household includes Mary Ann BELL now listed as age 29; James C. BELL, listed as age 13; Hector M. BELL, listed as age 9; and five CHOAT children ages 12 to 3 years. Archibald BELL married Sarah ELKINS about 1857. Their 1st child, Francis Levina, was born in Oct. 1858 Scott co. AR. Sarah ELKINS, born Feb. 1836 SC, was the daughter of Wm. Thorit and Lavisa SHARP Elkins. I have not found Arch & Sarah on the 1860 census but by 1870 the widow Sarah G., age 32, and her 4 BELL children resides with Sarah's mother, Levicia ELKINS, in Scott co. AR . Archibald was killed in 1864. I believe that the Andrew J., Irban H., and Zephania BELL found in 1880 census for Palo Pinto, TX are the children of James & Elizabeth BELL. Irban may have died in El Paso, TX. Where did the other children go? Who did they marry? What happened to James and 2nd wife Margaret? Notify Administrator about this message?
