Kena....I know the year of death below is different from what your friend thought it to be, but do you think this might be the Herman Bell they are looking for? This info is from the Social Security Death Index on Rootsweb.com:

After you get the exact date of death for Herman, perhaps trying to obtain a copy of his obituary would help. Here is a link to the St. Clair County Library. Their Reference Department will be able to tell you who houses old copies of the (Huron) Times Herald newspaper and would be willing to find the obit for you.

Here's a possibility for Herman's birth family, but no proof, of course. Think "Big Andy" might have been Herman's father?

Other options for determining Herman's parents' names.
Ordering Herman's death certificate from Michigan or ordering a copy of his application for social security card. If your friend decides to do either of these things, I will help you if you like.
