Hi,

Have been working on this African-American BASKERVILLE line for my cousin Bernice BASKERVILLE(age 90). Her father James BASKERVILLE was born 22 Feb, 1886 in South Hill, Mecklenburg County VA. His parents were Page BASKERVILLE and Mary MIMMS. Page BASKERVILLE was sold to the Baskerville's at age 3, in abt.1851 (according to family history). Maria MIMMS BASKERVILLE, born abt 1862, died in Philadelphia PA at the age of 103. She was living with daughter Annie BASKERVILLE MAYO at the time.
Page and Mary married in South Hill abt 1878.

Page and Mary had 10 children, 6 living by the time of 1900 census - among them were:

Annie or Anna b. 1898 m. ? MAYO

Rose b. 1892

Littleton b. abt 1879 m 3 times - first marrige to Betty BASKERVILLE, 2nd to Edith ?, 3rd to Mary ?

Alex b. abt 1891 m. Courtney DORTCH

Robert b. 1895

James b. 1886 married Leticia WILLIAMS, from Loudoun County (my grandmother's sister)in New Jersey.

James BASKERVILLE was a Blacksmith - he left VA and moved to Essex County NJ - where he is found from 1910 onwards.
A cousin - also living in NJ was named General BASKERVILLE.
Have not figured out the relationship yet.

Would be interested in hearing from anyone researching this family or related families.

Denise
