Here is the information. I mis-spoke earlier Briton didn't start a school but was heavily involved in politics. Here is some information from "But My Friends Are Poor-Ross Hamilton and Freedpeople's Politics in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, 1869-1901." by Harold S. Forsythe featured in The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography Vol. 105 No. 4 (Autumn 1997)
On page 418...Schoolteacher Britton Baskerville, Jr. (1860-1898) was born a slave in Mecklenburg and educated at Boydton Institute and Wayland Seminary. As the compromise candidate of county Republicans, he served one term in the House of Delegates, 1887-88. He posed a for a formal photograph during that session with other African-American delegates. It also makes reference to ...Boydton Academic and Bible Institute opened its doors in 1879. Britton Baskerville, Jr. was an 1883 graduate of the school...
