FROM FAMILYSEARCH.ORG:
ADOLPHUS M. BARNEY

Father:        MARSHALL BARNEY
Mother:        MARGARET TWOMBLY
Marriage: 12 NOV 1899 Pennacook, New Hampshire
Spouse: MARY E. BANKER

Marshall J. Barney
Birth: 10 Nov 1853       Valcourt, Shefford, Quebec, Canada
Death: 9 Mar 1924       Tilton, Belknap, New Hampshire, USA
Father:        Marshall Barney [1824-July 1880 Valcourt]
Mother:        Frances Tabenta
Spouse:        Margaret Twombly
Marriage: 16 Jun 1872 Concord, Merrimack, New Hampshire
Father:        Francis Twombley
Mother:        Colette Livermore

The names of the parents seem to be Americanized versions of French names. Tabenta is not a recognized surname except for this instance. Bernier is usually the French version of the Barney surname.

I do not know, but is is possible, that the parents were:
Marcel Bernier and Francoise Labonte had descendents in the Valcourt area.
Francois Tremblay and Scholastique Benoit dit Livernois had descendents in Franklin, New Hampsire about 20 miles from Concord which is where Marshall Barney and Margaret Twombly married.
