Dear Cliff, Thank you for your helpful reply. I think you are right about the marriage year. I got 1816 from the "Combined History: Edwards, Lawrence, Wabash Counties, Illinois," published in 1883 and viewed online at http://libsysdigi.library.uiuc.edu/oca/Books2007-07/combinedhistoryo00phil/combinedhistoryo00phil_djvu.txt. Perhaps it was trascribed wrong for the online version. Here is what is written: Jeremiah Ballard to Elizabeth Barney. July 31st, 1816, Seth Gard, J. C. C. Aug. 2nd, 181 [left blank] The order for this is "Name. Date of license. By whom married. Date of mrrge." It definitely says 1816, and the marriage date is incomplete, but all the entries around it are dated 1815. I was interested in the Barney's because I descend from William Barney through his daughter Mary who married Ransom Higgins. Their son William named a son Jeremiah and I was wondering if it was for Jeremiah Ballard who was a religious figure. I guess he would have been William Higgins' uncle, and even though he died when William was a boy, the family might have talked about him. Thanks again for all the Barney information. I am excited to have found out since my last post that I am a descendant so I really appreciate all the names and dates. Thank you! Notify Administrator about this message?
