I am a direct male line descendant of Alexander Atkinson b. 12/14/1767 - d. 8/11/1825. If my grandmothers research is correct only two of Alexander's sons had children Francis and Stephen. I am descended from Stephen through his son Benjamin b. 3/2/1859 - d. 5/10/1905. I am looking for one of Alexanders descendants who is in possession of his diary. There is a reference to Cangort, which is the ancestral home of a line of Atkinsons in the town of Shinrone, Co. Oaffley. I have yet to be able to make a connection with Alexander's father Francis and any of the Atkinson's of Cangort. I would like to know if anyone knows how and why this name came to be written in Alexander's diary. I would also welcome any information on how Alexander, who landed in New York on or around Christmas 1794, came to settle in Maryland. I will share any information I have with anyone wanting to learn about the descendants of Alexander Atkinson. Also I would also welcome any information that would shed any amount of light on the parents of Alexander's father Francis b. 1741
