I need some advice on where to start in the search of family heritage, the problem being that I don't wish to open up any secrets that would, infact, upset living members of the extended family. My father in law was born in 1925 in Calgary to a 'white' mother. It is said that his father was blackfoot but this has always been an assumption. He differed considerably from his siblings as he was swarthy with black hair while his siblings were all fair, this resulted in him being brought up by his maternal grandmother. The name of my father in law is Jarman, which is his mothers married name so not from blackfoot. Also Peacock was a name that crops up in the family early 1900's. I believe he looked of native origin and my husband also, well in his younger days. although he has his mothers fair skin he has some facial traits. I have located a few pictures taken in calgary in the 1920's and one in particular made my heart skip a beat as it looked the double of my husband as a small boy and of my 3 year old son! The picture was of 'the stump' and his grandson 'little light'. It is most likely coincedence but all the dates facts etc fit. Now I don't know what to do next so *any* information would be greatly recieved. Many thanks in advance Sarah (UK) Notify Administrator about this message?
